Tsum Valley Manaslu Circuit Trek

Taking a flight to Tribhuwan International Airport, you will arrive at Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Here, you will be warmly received and escorted to the Hotel of your choice.

Later, you can choose to stroll around Thamel’s bustling streets and tour Kathmandu’s historic heritage sites.

Today, we prepare ourselves for our 24-day Tsum Valley Manaslu Circuit Trek by gathering all the necessary pieces of equipment and required paperwork.

Also, you can explore Kathmandu more. Kathmandu is very famous for its religious historical monuments such as the Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath temple, and many more.

Starting early, we begin our journey by taking a long drive on the scenic route from Kathmandu to Macchakhola.

Moreover, we can view gorgeous rivers and winding roads in our drive. The drive takes around 7-8 hours to complete. Thereafter, we conclude our day at Maccha Khola(869m) at a teahouse.

On our fourth day, we officially begin hiking from Maccha Khola to Jagat (1340m). Firstly, we begin by crossing a river and ascending to Khorla Besi. On our way, we can witness attractive waterfalls. Then, after crossing the suspension bridge over Buddhi Gandaki River and Yaru Khola, we walk on a Cantilever trail to reach Jagat

Continuing our trek, our destination for today is Lokpa situated at a height of 2240m. Today, we cross multiple suspension bridges and walk through gorgeous forest areas to reach Lokpa. Also, we can observe the stunning views of Mt. Sringi on our journey. After 6-7 hours of trekking, we conclude our day in Lokpa.

On Day 6, we reach Chumling (3286m) from Lokpa. We take a scenic trail following a narrow gorge and descend to Lungwa River valley.

After crossing Syar Khola, we make our way to Chumling over lovely forest trails lined with pine, juniper, and rhododendron trees

Gathering our pace, we continue our trek by reaching Chhokangparo (3031m) from Chumling today. We reach Chhokangparo by crossing a suspension bridge and moving along the trail passing through iconic places including Gompa, Ranjam Village, and Gho. Indeed, our journey will consist of a lot of suspension bridges.

What’s more, Chhokangparo is very famous for its Tibetan tea and stunning views of the Ganesh Himal mountain peaks.

After breakfast, we continue our trek following a trail passing villages such as Shiar Khola, Lar, Phurbe, Pangdun, and several Buddhist monasteries. Today, we also gain a significant elevation after our ascend. After 5-6 hours of trekking, we reach Nile village situated at an altitude of 3361m. Here, we stay at a teahouse overnight.

Today, we trek from the Nile to Mu Gompa. Mu Gompa is the biggest monastery in the area covered by rows of chorten.

For further information, Mu Gompa situated at an altitude of 3700m was originally built in 1895 and lies at the highest and farthest point in the Tsum Valley. Mu Gompa features a life-size statue of Avalokiteshwara and portraits of Padmasambhava and Tara.

On our tenth day, we will retract ourselves back to Chhokangparo following a different route. On our way back to Chhokangparo, we will stop by Rachen Gompa. Furthermore, Rachen Gompa (3700m) bordering Tibet and Nepal like Mu Gompa is very ancient. It was built in 1905 and is one of the highlights of our journey.

Continuing our trek, we reach Gumba Lungdang(3400m) from Chhokangparo. With an early breakfast, we begin our trek by descending to Domje village. Shortly afterward, our trek is followed by a steep hike through a lush forest filled with pine and rhododendron trees as we reach Gompa Lungdang.

Finally, the day has come for us to reach the highest point of our journey. We hike from Gumba Lungdang to Ganesh Himal Base Camp today. Today, we are rewarded with spectacular views of the incredible Ganesh Himal mountain ranges.\

Here, the atmosphere replenishes your strength and makes you forget all the fatigue you have faced on your journey.

After taking in the beautiful views of the mountain, we head back to Gumba Lungdang where we will end our day.

Starting today, we descend for some days to continue our trek. We descend back to Chumling following the trail filled with lush, dense forest back to Chumling. After a relatively short trek, we reach Chumling where we will stay at a teahouse overnight.

Continuing our descent, we take a hike from Chumling to Deng by hiking through Lokpa. Firstly, we cross the suspension bridge of the Budhi Gandaki River and ascend to Nyak Phedi. Later, after trekking for a few more hours we reach Deng (1860m).

After breakfast, we will continue our journey by reaching Namrung(2630m) from Deng. We relaunch our ascend today. Walking through dense forests and villages, we reach Ghap. Here, we can observe incredible views of Mt Sringi.

Later, we cross the Buddhi Gandaki River again and reach Namrung after a steep ascend at the end of the trek.

Moving forward, today we ascend to Sama(3520m). Firstly, we reach Lho village walking through dense forest trails. Here, you can view Mt Mansalu.

Then, we reach Shyala village where we can have a stunning view of Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli, and Mt Manaslu. We reach Sama Gaun after ascending through Yak pasturelands.

Today is our acclimatization day. Over the past few days, we have gained significant altitude. However, we will not be idle as we will explore Pungen Gompa or take a short hike to Mt. Manaslu Base Base Camp or Birendra Lake.

Birendra Lake (Birendra Tal), is a freshwater lake located in Manaslu Glacier named after the Late King Birendra Shah. It is a gorgeous lake with a serene panoramic view of the mountain peaks in the landscape.

On day 18, we continue our ascend by reaching Samdo (3860m) from Sama. Today, we ascend and descend through the trails alongside the Budhi Gandaki River to reach Samdo. Our trail will consist of Mani walls and Juniper forests. After a short journey, we will reach Kani and then reach Samdo.

Today, we will hike from Samdo to Rui La Pass (4998m). Here, we can view the stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and Fukang glacier. After acclimatizing ourselves at the Gorgeous Rui La pass, we head back to Samdo.

Continuing our trek, we reach Dharmasala (4460m) from Samdo today. Our trek will feature crossing several wooden bridges reaching Larke La. Moreover, we can also see the tranquil Larkya Glacier on our descent to Dharmasala.

On Day 21, we reach the highest point of our 24-day journey which is Larke-La(5160m). After a couple of hours of hiking, we reach Larke-La which provides an excellent viewpoint for Cho Danda and Larkya Peak.

Today, we have a long day as we retrace ourselves back to Dharapani. After walking through pasture lands, crossing several bridges, and passing the rhododendron-filled forest we head back to Dharapani. On our way, we reach Tilije village. Upon reaching Dharapani, the hiking part of our journey came to an end.

After breakfast, we take a drive back to Kathmandu from Dharapani. This concludes our glorious 23-day journey. Driving through the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers parting ways with the hills and villages, we reach Kathmandu after a long drive of 9-10 hours.

Sadly, our adventurous trek has come to an end. We have gained a lot of wonderful trekking experiences over the mountain ranges in the last 24 days. Moreover, you’ll part ways in Kathmandu with fond memories of your great journey.
