Pumori Expedition

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu’s International Airport, you will be received by your agent. From there, you will be taken to your hotel. As you move to your hotel, you’ll witness the bustling streets of Kathmandu and its locals.

After having a refreshing time at the hotel, you can spend your time indulging in the attractions of the city. Also, if you have ample time, you can visit the heritage sites of the city such as Swoyambhunath, Bouddhanath, Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and more.

Before starting our Pumori Expedition, we’ll meet with our team members and guides for a short introduction and briefing. We’ll go over our itinerary, expenses, lodging, and much more information about the trek.

When the meeting is over, you can spend your time going for any last-minute shopping or just a relaxing stroll around the streets of Thamel.

Bidding farewell to Kathmandu, we commence our expedition with a breathtaking flight to Lukla. Overlooking the high peaks of Nepal including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and more we head on to Lukla.

This short flight will swiftly get you to Lukla from where we’ll start our trek toward Phakding. Following a trail led by the Dudh Koshi River, we walk to Phakding enjoying the picturesque scenery beside us.

Our 5-7-hour hike today starts by following the route led by Dudh Kodhi River. With gradual ascents and descents followed by steep sections with challenging rocky terrain, we continue on.

Immersing in the stunning views of rushing rivers, surrounding landscapes, and lush forests we pass through small villages such as Monjo and Jorsalle before reaching Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a famous tourist hub, where you’ll get a chance to experience the locals’ way of life.

Namche is a crucial acclimatization point in our journey. Being at a higher altitude, we take this day to rest and adapt ourselves to the altitude and highland weather. You can spend this day relaxing at your lodge soaking in the beautiful surroundings or hike to nearby viewpoints.

With your well-rested body, you will trek to Tengboche today. Walking on a path adorned with forests of rhododendrons and pines passing by small settlements of Sanasa and Phunki Thanka, we reach Tengboche.

Tengboche is a beautiful village offering breathtaking views of the Ama Dablam massif. Also, the infamous Tengboche Monastery lies here.

We’ll set off on rocky terrains with step steep inclines and declines passing through picturesque villages. The trail to Dingboche will be pleasant as the stunning views of the Himalayas, monasteries, and surrounding landscapes will never leave your side.

We’ll also pass by Pangboche village, a village home to one of the oldest monasteries in the region, the Pangboche Monastery. Pushing forward, we reach Dingboche where we’ll spend the night.

It is essential to get your body to adjust to high altitude before summiting, so we’ll take yet another rest day. Dingboche is a peaceful village blessed with natural beauty and opportunities for cultural exploration.

Walking to nearby sites offering majestic scenery of the Himalayas such as Lhotse, Nuptse, Imja Tse, Chukung Peak, and some glaciers, can be a good way to acclimatize.

The trek today is a bit more challenging yet a rewarding one. Following a rugged trail through arid tough terrains, we’ll ascend gradually making our way toward Lobuche. As we gain more elevation, the path becomes more steep adding to the difficulty of the trek.

However, the breathtaking views of lofty peaks such as Nuptse, Khumbutse, Pumori itself, and the touching memorials for brave climbers will push you to reach Lobuche. Also, the stunning view of glacial moraines and the landscapes will be a great experience.

Finally, on this day, we’ll trek up to the Pumori Base Camp, which is placed at a height of 5250m. Trekking on a challenging steep uphill path, we make our way to the camp. The trail can be very demanding as it will be a sharp ascent with snowy parts at some points.

Traversing through these tough terrains, we’ll reach Pumori Base Camp rewarding us with awe-inspiring views of Pumori, Lingtren, and Everest. The snow-covered landscapes all around you will leave you star-struck.

Now for the next 13 days, we’ll get on with our preparation for the summit of Mt. Pumori. Starting on the base camp at 5250m, we’ll take a day for acclimatization purposes. Then, from the next day onwards, we’ll hike up to the intermediary camps placed at the heights of 5,700m, 6,200m, and 6,480m.

During the day we’ll hike to higher-level camps and return to the lower ones for the night for proper acclimation before pushing for the summit. However, the hike between these camps won’t be that easy. We have to navigate through tough routes passing through glaciers and ice cliffs on snow-covered routes.

Ultimately, after proper acclimatization and preparation, we’ll begin our final stretch by attempting to summit Mount Pumori.

With a final push on the demanding trail following our guide’s lead, we reach the top of Pumori. The high you feel looking over Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, and Thamserku is indescribable.

With the other worldly feelings, we’ll return to Pumori Base Camp slowly.

After completing the summit, we’ll get back to the Pumori Base Camp, from where we’ll make our way back to Lukla. Trekking on the same route as before we reach Pangboche passing by Lobuche and Dingboche Village.

Also, you’ll get to enjoy the serene views of the Himalayan, monasteries, and surrounding landscapes along the way.

Following a path with steep descents alongside beautiful rhododendron woodlands, across swift streams, passing through several villages of this region. Take this opportunity to explore these villages and their cultures.

Moreover, soaking in the lovely sceneries before us we’ll slowly reach Namche Bazaar. Namche is always a bustling town, so you can head out to the markets after resting for a bit.

For the last trek of this journey, we walk from Namche Bazaar to Lukla passing by the same villages as before: Jorsalle, Monjo, and Phakding. Walking alongside the Dudh Koshi River on narrow trails uphill enjoying the final glimpses of the high peaks we reach Lukla.

With a delicious breakfast at Lukla, we’ll catch a short flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy the breathtaking views of mountains and the landscapes once again up from the plane. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can relax and unwind at your hotel.

Take an extra day to explore other attractions of Kathmandu city that you’ve missed before. You can opt to tour Bhaktapur Durbar Square, MangalBazaar, Narayanhitti Palace, Patan Durbar Square, Patan Museum, and more.

Moreover, you could relax and rest up the exhaustion in your hotel.

Your 30-day Pumori Expedition ends today as you depart from Kathmandu. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories from this trip the beauty of the highlands of Nepal and the hospitality of the locals.

Depending on your schedule, your tour agent will transfer you to the airport, for a safe flight back home.
