Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek

Your trekking agent will welcome you to Kathmandu and transfer you to your hotel. Unwind at the hotel and set out to walk around the streets of Kathmandu. If you have more free time, you can sightsee some attractions of the city as well.

Early in the morning we’ll leave Kathmandu and set off on our journey. We’ll start with a 7-hour bus ride to Gonggar on a scenic route providing views of the soaring Sunkoshi River, Bhote Khosi River, and Tama Koshi River.

Also, you will pass by many highland villages of Nepal such as Dolakha, Pikhuti, Suri Dobhan, and Manthali.

Then, after you reach Gonggar, you’ll begin your hike toward Simigaon. Your hike will lead you through a beautiful trail of rhododendrons and lovely Sherpa villages. Upon reaching Simigaun, you will be greeted with the divine view of Mount Gaurishankhar.

Today we’ll begin by hiking down to Rolwaling River on a narrow rocky trail through forests of rhododendrons. Then, moving across the river, we’ll make our way to Dogang enjoying the stunning vista of Mt. Gaurishankar, and the serene natural beauty of these places.

The trek today is short but the route will make this enjoyable.

We’ll embark on our journey via rugged terrains of several ups and downs with captivating views of the towering Gaurishankar Massif, lush forests, rhododendrons, and swift streams. As we move on this route, we’ll reach Nyamare and then eventually Beding.

Beding is a picturesque village with a serene environment and rich Sherpa Culture. After resting at a lodge here, feel free to pay a visit to Gaurishankar Temple, and other Gompas present here.

We’ll take this for rest and acclimatization purposes. Beding is a beautiful village and also the largest one in the Rolwaling region, so we’ll hike around nearby sites to spend the day.

We can choose to hike up to the awe-inspiring Menlung La Pass at 5616m which offers a breathtaking panorama of snowcapped peaks. Pristine glaciers and verdant woodlands below are equally stunning.

On a path led by the Rolwaling River through verdant valleys and crossing the crystal-clear streams, we’ll walk to Na. Along the way, you’ll find mesmerizing views of the rugged grandeur of the Himalayan landscape.

Then, moving forward on the rugged terrain with steep ascents and descents, we reach Na Village. Na is yet another peaceful Sherpa village, you’ll come across in this journey, where we’ll spend the night surrounded by the majestic beauty of the mountains.

We’ll acclimatize today by hiking to the Yalung Base Camp. Traversing on rocky terrains deeper into the mountains, we move closer to the base camp.

Upon reaching Yalung Base Camp, nestled at the bottom of the lofty peak, you’ll be greeted by a surreal landscape of towering cliffs and icy glaciers. After soaking in the majestic surroundings, we’ll head back to Na Village for the night.

Setting out from Na, the trail moves through small settlements and forests on a sharp incline. Then, as we ascend gently on the moraines on Rolwaling Glacier, the vast vistas of snow-capped peaks come into view.

Ultimately, reaching Tsho Rolpa Lake unveils a serene environment. The azure lake reflecting the majesty of the surrounding peaks and the pristine aura make this trek truly wonderful.

Now, immersing ourselves in the beauty of this place, we’ll set up our camps nearby for the night.

With filled stomachs, we’ll begin our trek to Trakarding Glacier. We’ll trek via sharp slippery inclines covered with snow and ice, adding to the difficulty of the trek. The trek today will be a challenging one but also the most adventurous.

Trekking up on these tough trails, stopping to enjoy the scenery of Rolwaling Kang, Takargo, and Jabou Ri massifs, we reach Tarkarding Glacier.

After waking up to the captivating surroundings of Trakarding Glacier, we have breakfast and prepare for the trek ahead. The path today will lead us through rocky terrains on a challenging ascent across the glacier.

Then, we’ll move on to the Drolambau Glacier, where trekking will be a lot harder. However, enjoying the pristine snowscape, we push towards Tashi Lapcha Phedi, where we’ll camp for the night surrounded by beautiful Himalayas.

Finally, on this day, we’ll reach the Tashi Lapcha Pass, the major point of this journey. Starting with a challenging ascent on arid and rocky trails we move forward. After about 4-5 hours trek uphill, we’ll summit the pass.

Tashi Lapcha is a high pass at a staggering height of 5755m, providing an expansive view of the valleys, landscapes, and glaciers below, and stunning mountains such as Gauri Shankar, Everest, and Cho Oyu ahead. The pass also marks the boundary between the Rolwaling and Khumbu regions.

Take a moment to soak in the scenery before descending to Tashi Lapcha Base Camp.

As we’ve summited the pinnacle of this journey, we’ll start descending today onwards. Leaving the base camp, on a smoother snowy route we head toward Parchemuche Tsho, a stunning glacial lake nestled in the heart of the Khumbu region.

Then, we continue to Thyangbo enjoying the breathtaking views of towering peaks such as Pasang Lhamu Chuli and Cho Oyu. Ultimately, we reach Thyangbo, a peaceful village where we’ll camp for the night with beautiful mountains around us.

From Thyangbo, we’ll hike down to Thame on a trail alongside cliffs, immersing in the tranquil atmosphere of the upper lands. The hike down will take about 4-5 hours and will be relatively easier.

Upon reaching Thame, take a well-needed rest and unwind at your lodge. Later in the evening, explore the Thame Monastery for a relaxing and spiritual experience.

Today we’ll hike to Namche Bazaar, a popular tourist hub, the capital town of Sherpas, and the starting point of the Everest Region. Walking on a route of forests while getting glimpses of highland faunas along the Bhote Koshi River, we reach Namche.

Moreover, you will be accompanied by the vistas of high peaks such as Mt Everest, Cho Oyu, and Taboche throughout the hike down.

Our descent to Lukla today marks the last trek of this journey. We’ll be walking across the iconic Hillary Suspension Bridge, passing local villages like Jorsalle, nestled in the Dudh Koshi River Valley, soaking in the breathtaking views.

Our trek concludes upon reaching Lukla, where we’ll spend the night, bidding farewell to the majestic Himalayas.

Today, you will return to Kathmandu via a short flight back from Lukla. The scenic flight with mesmerizing views of the lofty mountains of Nepal, will undoubtedly be unforgettable.

Then, upon reaching Kathmandu, freshen up at your hotel and rest out your exhaustion from the trip. You can also explore the local markets of Kathmandu city and experience the different lifestyles of locals.

Take this extra day to explore Kathmandu, and tour around several historical sites of the valley. You can visit the Swoyambhunath, Bouddhanath, Patan Durbar Square, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and other sites.

You can also stroll around the streets of Thamel to shop for souvenirs.
